Thank you for your interest in serving as a volunteer for our upcoming MESA competition events!
At these competition events, youth from our middle and high schools come to present their best designs for this year’s MESA challenges. As with every year, we depend on your support so that this can be a trans-formative, positive experience for the youth. The time commitment for events are typically from about 7:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m (including lunch).
Please know that we do not expect all volunteers to be experts in particular areas. Rather, we are looking for supportive adults that can ensure designs meet specifications, testing is fair and consistent, and provide a safe testing atmosphere. Additionally we are looking for people who are interested in supporting students, seeing them succeed by providing them feedback, and helping them move their projects forward. If you would like more information on the design challenges please visit our Specifications webpage.
There are other ways that you can volunteer with MESA.
- Assist students in exploring engineering at Saturday Academies through hands-on activities
- Assist students by willing to answer questions and offer feedback on student projects either in person, via zoom, or via email.
- Make a presentation to MESA advisors at professional development training
- Serve as a guest speaker at a MESA meeting at a local school
- Make a presentation about summer educational opportunities or scholarship opportunities available through your organization to get the word out to MESA students
- Create a competition event that will introduce students to your area of science, technology, or engineering expertise
- Work with MESA staff to organize a weekend on campus event for students and families or a field trip to the UA campus
If you are interested in any of these or have any questions please contact us at (520) 626.2300 or azmesa@email.arizona.edu. Thank you for your time and commitment to serving our MESA students!
