Our panelists will be:
Shanoa Nez
- Undergraduate student, studying Molecular & Cellular Biology and Public Health
- Research: stomach cancer in Native Americans and reasons for the higher rates of this cancer among Native Americans in Arizona, compared to other groups
- Career goal: Become a physician
Dr. Magdiel Habila
- Doctoral student studying epidemiology
- Previous higher education: undergraduate degree in psychology from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA
- Research: cervical cancer and health disparities that are linked to limited access to the HPV vaccine and cancer screening services, particularly in women of color and women who are immigrants and/or refugees
- Career goal: Become a professor of epidemiology and work in breast and cervical cancer research in African countries.
Dr. David Garcia
- Assistant Professor
- Previous higher education: bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Slippery Rock University, master’s degree in physical activity and PhD in exercise physiology – both from the University of Pittsburgh
- Research: development of gender and culturally-sensitive weight loss interventions for Hispanic males
