Our annual Arizona MESA Advisor Training Institute (MATI) is an event that provides educators with an opportunity to explore, share, practice and improve essential skills that STEM educators need to support independent inquiry. Led by MESA's STEM advisors and staff, these workshops also introduce educators to the Arizona 2018 MESA Day Book of Challenge Specifications as well as related curricular tools and skill-focused activities that are aligned with national standards (NGSS, CCSS). Some workshops provide short, hands-on, creative experiences in the engineering design process that you can implement with your students.
Sessions include presentations from MESA partners including QESST, Women In Science and Engineering, Xerocraft Makerspace, as well as special presentations by the UA Institute of the Environment and the OSIRIS-REx mission. Topics covered include competition changes, recruitment strategies, MESA program ideas and activities, Arduino programming, and preparing for the national competition.
Attending MESA Advisors receive a STEM Resource Kit to support general STEM activities presented and to assist students in taking on the design challenges.
The event takes place 9:30 am - 5 pm on Friday, September 8, and 8 am - 3 pm on Saturday, September 9. Please note that Friday's lunch and Saturday's breakfast (continental) and lunch, will be provided to registered participants.
We hope you will attend, share your insights about STEM education, and help grow MESA's community of professional STEM educators. For additional information and registration, please visit the 2017 MATI Registration page.
